We get a lot of questions about when is the best time to start anti-aging treatments. These questions remind me of an old Chinese proverb: When is the best time to plant a tree? 20 years ago. When is the second best time? Now!
Most people today recognize that preventing aging is easier than reversing it. That said, what are the best treatments and when should you start them?
Anti-Aging through Skin Care
Anyone who is past puberty should be on a good skin care regimen. Treating acne is easier than treating the scars it leaves behind. Preventing wrinkles is easier than removing deep lines. A good skin care regimen can go a long way when youโre young. Some of the most helpful products contain antioxidants, sunscreen and retinoic acid.
Anti-Aging through Botox and Dysport
Many of our facial lines and wrinkles are rooted in muscle movement. Botox or Dysport can help relax those facial muscles, preventing deepening of the wrinkles. When youโre in your 20s, even getting Botox every 6 months can significantly diminish signs of aging. ย Don’t forget to sign up for the rewards programs!
Anti-Aging through Collagen Stimulation
After age 20, collagen and elastin production begin to drop. Collagen stimulating treatments can help prevent volume loss and skin crepiness. Anti-aging treatments like PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections, facial microneedling and regular laser collagen facials can help maintain youthful collagen levels.
Anti-Aging through Chemical Peels
Even with regular sunscreen use, you will likely develop some sun damage. Regular chemical peels (once or twice a year) can help remove the damage, keeping your skin looking fresh. Peels can also help to diminish pore size.
Even though the best time to start anti-aging is in your 20s, the second best time to start is now. If your aging process is more advanced, it may take somewhat more invasive procedures to get you similar results. That being said, itโs never too late to start doing some anti-aging treatments now to prevent your signs of aging from getting worse.
