Liposuction of the Arms
We all want defined, toned arms, but for some, the upper arms can be a stubborn area to trim. With weight fluctuation, aging and hormonal changes, men and women might develop “flabby” arms or “batwings” that make it uncomfortable to wear certain clothing. Arms liposuction is a procedure that is appropriate for both men and women who are in good health and struggling to get rid of excess arm fat with diet and exercise. If you dread the thought of going sleeveless, this procedure can help you regain your self-confidence by removing stubborn fat deposits.
Body contouring is an art form that requires expert hands for natural and lasting results. At Imagen, we use a combination of SmartLipo Triplex and Renuvion for Arm Skin-Tightening for excess fat removal and to tighten the skin. This combination has several benefits over traditional liposuction including collagen production and faster recovery.
Renuvion® Skin Tightening for Arms
Renuvion, also known as J-Plasma, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that utilizes a combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency energy to improve the appearance of saggy or loose skin. It is an effective treatment option for individuals with saggy arms especially when done in combination with laser liposuction.
Renuvion works by delivering energy to the underlying layers of skin, causing a tightening effect. It utilizes a combination of helium plasma and radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production and tighten the skin, resulting in a firmer and more youthful-looking appearance. This, in turn, stimulates collagen production, resulting in tighter and firmer skin.
Compared to traditional surgical methods such as invasive arm lift surgery, Renuvion is less invasive and only requires small incisions. We are proud to be Omaha’s only Renuvion provider.

Arm Lipo Combinations
Many of our patients have liposuction performed on their upper back or underarm (armpit) area with their arm lipo to enhance the body’s overall proportions and create an even more balanced appearance. The anterior and posterior bra line are other common treatment areas to combine with arm Lipo. Our goal is to make sure that the final results look natural and complement the patient’s physique.
Am I a Good Candidate for Arm Liposuction?
To determine if you’re an ideal candidate for arm liposuction, you should start by considering these questions:
- Have I tried diet and exercise and still don’t like the look of my arms?
- Am I in good health?
- Am I at, or close to, my ideal weight? If you are more than 30 pounds over your goal weight, you may want to consider weight loss first to get a better result.
- Do I have good skin elasticity to help with recovery? If you have excessive skin (loose skin), you may get a better result with a plastic surgery procedure such as a brachioplasty (arm lift.) This would need to be done under general anesthesia.
- Do I have realistic expectations?

What will Happen on the Day of my Arm Liposuction Procedure?
- You should come to your surgery appointment wearing loose-fitting clothes that can be easily removed. It should be something you don’t mind getting messy.
- The team will take your measurements, photos and vital signs.
- Your surgeon will review your pre-op vitals and answer any last-minute questions about the type of liposuction that is planned.
- You will receive a mild oral sedative.
- Small incisions are made to inject numbing local anesthetic under the skin (tumescent liposuction).
- The doctor melts the unwanted fat using SmartLipo (laser-assisted liposuction).
- A small suction cannula removes unwanted fat cells and contours your arms. The amount of fat removed will depend on how much fat you have to start.
- Renuvion’s radio frequency and helium plasma technology tightens the skin by stimulating collagen production.
- Imagen staff fits you with a compression garment and prepares post-op instructions.
- You will return to the clinic the following day for a check up, and again at one week.
- After one month, the doctor will examine the area and determine if you can stop using the compression garment.
Recovery FAQs for Arm Liposuction
How painful is arm liposuction?
Most patients experience only slight-to-mild discomfort for a few days after arm liposuction. Many of them describe it as an ache or soreness. The discomfort usually decreases after the second or third day and you can return to your normal activities.
How much fat can you lipo from arms?
This is a very common question and we try to answer by putting things in perspective. A typical arm liposuction can result in 100-500cc (or more) from each arm. An easy visual in terms of volume is a 2 liter soda bottle, which would be larger than most peoples arms. This volume includes not only fat, but also bone and muscle. To expect to remove 1-2 liters from each arm is unreasonable for most patients.
How long is arm lipo downtime?
We recommend that you take at least two days for recovery time following the procedure to rest. You will be wearing a compression garment that will help the tissues to stabilize. We will provide you with 2 garments to alternate during your recovery.
How long do you have to wear the compression sleeves after arm lipo?
For most patients, you will be able to come out of your compression sleeves after 4 weeks.
Are there drain tubes after arm lipo?
No, but you will have some drainage from the incisions for the first 24-48 hours after the procedure, which is normal.
What do arm lipo scars look like?
The tiny incisions will heal and fade with time. Most patients don’t have much in the way of visible scars by their 6 month visit.
Does arm lipo leave saggy skin?
If your arms have been stretched by significant fat volumes or if you are older, you may have saggy skin after lipo. We use Renuvion and SmartLipo laser energy to help stimulate collagen production, reducing the amount of laxity in the skin.
When can I go back to normal exercise?
We ask that patients avoid any strenuous or high impact exercise for a few weeks after their procedure. Most patients are fully recovered and back to their regular routine within a few weeks after surgery.
How long do arm lipo results last?
Results from arm lipo are permanent with regards to the volume reduction. It is always possible to store fat if you are gaining weight and your results will look best if you maintain a stable weight or have some weight loss. Skin tightening results are never permanent, since losing skin firmness is a part of the aging process. Weight gain can counteract your lipo results.
How long does arm lipo take?
You should plan a half of a day for your treatment, but the actual procedure can take as little as 90 minutes, depending on the volume of fat to be removed.
How Much does Arm Liposuction Cost?
Is arm lipo expensive? Arm liposuction starts at $2,760 depending on how many areas you want to have treated. The price on your proposal is all-inclusive, meaning there are no hidden fees. Because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, most healthy patients do not require pre op labs or screening exams prior to their arm lipo. All operative fees and anesthesia fees are included in the price as well as all follow up visits and 2 sets of compression garments. There are no taxes on the procedure. Pre-op labs are generally not required.
- Facility Fee
- All operative anesthesia and medicine fees while at our clinic for your procedure
- The Procedure Itself
- Your Compression Garment
- All follow-up visits
Is lipo on arms worth it?
Obviously, having a liposuction procedure is a very personal decision and what may be “worth it” to one person, may not be to another. Most of our arm liposuction patients are very happy with their results and the recovery and scar are significantly less than what would result from a more invasive procedure like an arm lift/brachioplasty.
