Sculptra® Butt Lift at Imagen Body Sculpting
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift or BBL is a very popular cosmetic procedure pioneered in Rio de Janeiro that uses your own fat cells to make your derriere look more lifted, rounder, and sculpted without implants. During this Brazilian butt lift surgery, a cosmetic surgeon starts with liposuction to gather excess fat from other areas of the body such as the lower back, abdomen, or thighs via either SmartLipo or Vaser Liposuction. The liposuction itself involves small incisions in the skin and then using a cannula to remove fat from the body.
Once the excess fat is harvested via a cannula it is purified and stored before being used to inject into the buttocks area. Then the plastic surgeon uses a technique known as gluteal fat grafting to provide augmentation in the butt cheeks and hips, enhancing the size and shape of the buttocks and sculpting an hourglass shape
What is a Non Surgical Brazilian Butt Lift with Sculptra?
Sculptra® is an FDA-approved injectable filler formulated with poly-L-lactic acid or PLLA, a biodegradable compound that increases the volume where it is injected by stimulating the skin’s naturally occurring collagen production. Sculptra® is most commonly used as a dermal filler to help the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles along with age-related volume loss in the face. However, in recent years, efficacy as a non-surgical option for buttocks enhancement or BBL has proven to have good results.

How Does a Sculptra Butt Lift Work?
When Sculptra is injected into the buttocks or other areas of the body, the poly-L-lactic acid or PLLA Microparticles are gradually absorbed by the body and start to work deep within the dermis subcutaneous tissues to reinvigorate collagen growth and production and the skin’s inner structure. As new collagen growth builds up over time, it adds subtle, natural-looking volume to the treated area. Sculptra is absorbed in time, by the surrounding tissues and is usually completely gone one to two years after treatment, however, the new collagen remains and continues producing a fuller, more volumizing effect for years to come.
Sculptra BBL uses filler injections into the buttocks to provide fullness, lift, and shape without surgery or downtime. Sculptra can also be used to make minor adjustments to specific areas or the patient’s anatomy, such as filling out deep “hip dips” or providing plumping to parts of the buttocks that aren’t as filled out to achieve symmetry.
What are the Benefits of a Sculptra BBL?
Patients who opt for the non-surgical butt lift with Sculptra do it for many reasons.
- Sculptra is minimally invasive and does not require plastic surgery.
- It is effective for all body types.
- Assists patients with minimal fat to achieve butt augmentation.
- Can be used to improve Cellulite.
- Is performed with only FDA-approved materials.
- Quick, in-office treatment.
- Little to no downtime.
- Results are long-lasting.

How does the Sculptra BBL Compare to Surgery?
Both fat transfer BBL and a Sculptra BBL both produce amazing results for the right patient. A surgical fat transfer can achieve a more dramatic result in a shorter amount of time. However, because it is a surgical procedure it is more invasive than Sculptra BBL and yield more pain, a higher risk of complications, and requires recovery time.
Sculptra BBL results are more subtle and not as permanent as fat transfer, but injections of Sculptra require no incisions or anesthesia and can be performed with minimal discomfort, side effects, and recovery time.
One BBL method is not better than the other, but there may be a technique that is better suited to achieve a particular patient’s particular optimal results.
What is Involved in the Sculptra Butt Lift Procedure?
Every Sculptra butt lift procedure begins with a consultation with a medical professional. During this consultation, your plastic surgeon will do a physical examination and go over your goals and expectations to determine if Sculptra is right for you. They will then customize the amount and placement of your injections for your anatomical needs and mark the injection site to ensure precise placement. Your doctor will inject the Sculptra using a fine needle or cannula, carefully distributing the product evenly and minimizing your discomfort as much as possible.
Sculptra buttock augmentation treatments can be done between errands or during lunch break, one of the few cosmetic procedures which is quick and convenient.
What Results can I Expect From a non surgical BBL?
Results from a Sculptra Butt Lift treatment appear gradually and optimal results are appreciated 3-5 months after the butt lift procedure. As your results take effect, your buttock enhancement will begin to lift and become more contoured as your results emerge. Most patients enjoy the results of their Sculptra butt lift for up to two years, but some have reported the benefits last much longer than that. Touch-up injections of Sculptra will most likely be required to prolong the effects of your butt lift procedure.

What Are The Risks and Side Effects Associated with the Sculptra BBL?
Side effects are rare after a Sculptra BBL, but may include swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness, and or small lumps at the injection site. At Imagen, we perform all of our Sculptra injections with a cannula to help minimize bruising. With a non-surgical BBL, there are no special garments or restrictions to abide by afterward. You can go back to work and exercise right away and there are no restrictions on sitting or lying on your back or hips.
Who is a Good Candidate for a Sculptra BBL?
Anyone who desires a fuller, more contoured derriere without more invasive cosmetic procedures or downtime and lives a healthy lifestyle is an ideal candidate for a Sculptra buttock lift. Another good candidate for the Sculptra buttock enhancement is the patient that doesn’t have enough excess fat to qualify for a buttock augmentation with fat grafting (traditional BBL). It is also a good option for someone who wants to make fine-tuning tweaks to their body contouring or smooth out cellulite dimples.
During your initial consultation, your plastic surgeon with go over your desired results, butt lift cost, their aesthetic goals for your body type, and any questions you may have about the Sculptra buttock enhancement treatment. At this time, they will also go over downtime, recovery time, your personalized treatment plan and recommendations, and any special instructions they may have for you.
How Much Does a Sculptra BBL Cost?
The cost of a Sculptra treatment varies on how many vials of Sculptra will be needed to produce the desired outcome or the optimal results. Because of this, the cost can vary significant (while you may need only a few vials to treat cellulite, you may need many more to achieve the buttock augmentation you desire.) The plastic surgeon will provide a treatment plan as well as an estimate for the cost of the treatment at the time of your consultation.
Does the Sculptra Buttock Augmentation Hurt?
The technique that we use at Imagen involves minimal discomfort. We do not use a topical anesthetic that would require you to wait for an hour while it takes effect. Instead, we use lidocaine at the injection sites (there are no incisions) and also mix the Sculptra with lidocaine to reduce any discomfort for the patient. This allows for a quick and convenient appointment for our patients. There is minimal discomfort after the procedure. Some patients may experience some bruising which can cause tenderness in the treated area. Arnica can help to prevent and relieve swelling and bruising associated with the injection.
Are there other options for non surgical BBL?
Other fillers can be used to augment the buttocks as well. Radiesse is a long lasting filler which can be used for buttock augmentation, however given the small quantity available in a syringe, using it for buttock augmentation is often cost prohibitive. There are other fillers that are not yet available in the US (not yet FDA approved) that come in larger syringes designed specifically for buttock augmentation. EMSculpt is another option for non-surgical augmentation which works by building up the gluteal muscles.
