Why Vaginal Rejuvenation?
The aging process and the effects of childbirth can wreak havoc on your vagina. Most women over the age of 35 who have had at least 1 vaginal delivery have some symptoms of aging in the vagina. One of the most common concerns that we treat with vaginal rejuvenation is stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine when you sneeze, laugh, run, etc). Other issues that can be treated with laser vaginal rejuvenation include vaginal dryness, discomfort with intercourse, trouble with orgasms and a loss of vaginal tone.*
What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation uses laser or radiofrequency to heat and resurface the tissues, helping to lift and tighten as well as improve lubrication.*
First Dr de Soto will do an exam. This feels similar to a pap smear. Once it has been determined that you have normal anatomy, the doctor will insert the laser for the internal treatment. You will feel the laser moving, but this part is usually painless. Once the internal structures have been treated, the handpiece is changed to an external one and the external structures are treated as well.
Many patients are concerned about their comfort during the procedure. Harper’s Bazaar did a great piece on the “Younger Games” about laser vaginal rejuvenation. The particular laser that they used was the Femilift, but it is a CO2 laser, similar to the CO2RE Intima and the treatment is comparable.
You can see that video here:
We chose the CO2RE Intima laser which is a CO2 laser. The CO2 laser does a better job of resurfacing the vaginal canal and improving lubrication than the radio frequency treatments. If you want to know more about the differences between CO2 and RF treatments for vaginal rejuvenation, you can read our blog, What is the Best Treatment for Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Am I a good candidate for Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Good candidates for vaginal rejuvenation include women who have a mild-moderate degree of vaginal laxity or dryness. If you have uterine prolapse (your uterus is falling out through your vagina) or you have had a bladder sling, you are not a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation. Most of the patients that we treat have mild-moderate stress urinary incontinence. If you have frequent urinary tract infections or vaginal infections (including yeast infections) you may be at a higher risk for infection after the treatment.
What are the risks with Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Any laser treatment carries risks. The most common effect after the treatment is itching. This typically occurs as the tissues heal. It is possible for yeast or bacterial infections to occur, so it’s important to follow all of your post procedure instructions carefully. The most serious risk of any laser treatment is the possibility of a burn. We use a lower energy setting to help prevent this complication.
How much does Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation cost?
At Imagen, we charge by the treatment. Some clinics charge vaginal rejuvenation as a package, however we feel that it’s better for you to pay only for treatments that you need. Depending on the severity of your symptoms, your age and what your symptoms are, you may need 1 or you may need 4 treatments to get significant initial improvement. Most patients have 2-3 treatments initially (each a month apart). Because you continue to age, the treatment is not permanent. Most patients return to the clinic once a year for a maintenance treatment. Each treatment costs $1370.
What sort of results can I expect with Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation?
The level of improvement depends on many factors, including your age and the severity of your symptoms. There is a visible change in the appearance of the tissues, letting us see how much tightening is happening. We take photos of all of our vaginal rejuvenation patients and have many photos that we would be willing to show you. However, due to the sensitive nature of the photos, we choose not to post them on the website. We will happily show you photos when you come in for your consultation.
If you want to know what patients think about the Intima, you can read our blog, Intima…My Story of Vaginal Rejuvenation
CO2RE Intima has a very high satisfaction rate… (you can see the details of the study here)
- 100% of subjects reported satisfaction with the treatment and 94% would recommend it
- 81% of subjects reported an improvement in sexual gratification
- 94% of subjects reported an improvement in vaginal rejuvenation
- 96% of subjects reported none to mild discomfort during and/or after the procedure
