How can you get rid of a double chin – also called submental fullness? Fat buildup in the neck and under the jawline can create a more rounded facial appearance. If you’re looking for a sharper and more defined jawline, chin liposuction can help remove excess neck fat and improve your neck contour.
Sometimes a proper diet and time in the gym aren’t enough to remove body fat around the chin. It’s one of those hard-to-manage stubborn areas. To obtain a streamlined profile and chiseled jawline when you look in the mirror, you may need a cosmetic procedure to physically remove the excess fat that creates a double chin.
What Is Double Chin Liposuction?
Double chin, jowls, turkey neck…these can all be treated with SmartLipo MAX at Imagen. Our board certified cosmetic surgeons use SmartLipo for sculpting the chin and contouring the neck. They then use Renuvion and laser energy to tighten the skin for a more defined jawline. SmartLipo MAX is a great alternative for those considering plastic surgery such as a lower face lift or neck lift.
Liposuction For Double Chin
Our goal is to help give you the neck and chin you desire while assuring you’re safe and comfortable. Performed in our state of the art surgery center, our Liposuction techniques use local anesthesia, so you can remain alert during the procedure, though some are so comfortable they fall asleep. Because we use a powerful, yet gentle local anesthetic to numb your face and neck area while the doctor sculpts your newly defined jawline, you don’t have to worry about the risks associated with general anesthesia and traditional liposuction. Chin lipo is considered a minimally invasive procedure.
Chin lipo begins by making small incisions and injecting the area with numbing tumescent fluid. The doctor then liquifies the fat using Laser Lipo before using a suction cannula to remove the excess fat cells from the chin and sculpt the jawline using facial liposuction. Finally, the doctor uses Renuvion’s radio frequency and helium plasma technology to tighten the skin for up to 65% retraction. The result is a more defined jawline and desirable profile.
After your chin liposuction procedure, you will be fitted with a chin strap-style compression garment to reduce swelling and discomfort. Patients wear the compression garment for 24-hours for 3 days after surgery then 12-hours/day for 2 weeks – most wear after work, overnight, until they go to work the next day.
Treatment Areas For Double Chin Lipo
Double chin liposuction is intended for those with excess fat under the jawline. If your chin is causing you to feel self-conscious, you’re not the only one. Unfortunately, losing weight doesn’t guarantee jowls or a double chin will disappear. The neck area is a tricky part of the body to target with diet and exercise. Chin liposuction removes this stubborn fat from your chin and neck.
What Results Can I Expect From Submental Liposuction?
Submental liposuction sculpts the chin and neck area by removing fat deposits that create a double chin. The amount of fat removed and your skin elasticity both play a part in your final results. After your double chin removal, you will notice a much slimmer, more youthful contour. We recommend adhering to a wholesome diet and regular exercise schedule to maintain great results.
If you have a lack of definition in your jawline, you may also benefit from a chin implant or fillers along the jawline to help achieve a sharper neck contour.
What Are The Risks of Chin Liposuction?
Chin liposuction is a safe procedure over all, but just like any surgical treatment, it does have risks. The most common side effect of chin liposuction is bruising and swelling with some mild pain and tenderness. Bruising is not usually extensive, but the swelling can be as bad or slightly worse than what you looked like before the surgery. With any liposuction there is a small risk of damage to the underlying structures or nerve injury.
How Long is Neck Liposuction Recovery Time?
Double chin surgery is a straightforward surgery with minimal downtime. You will be required to wear your compression garment to help minimize the risk of complications, reduce swelling, and help prevent asymmetry. Many patients are concerned about how long you need to wear the compression after chin Liposuction because it is difficult to hide. Fortunately, the compression for double chin surgery at Imagen is only worn round the clock for 3 days. After that point, you will just wear the compression at night for a total of 2 weeks. We close our neck incisions (which are very tiny!) with a steristrip bandage, so there are no sutures. Some pain, tenderness, bruising, and swelling are common side effects of double chin surgery. Symptoms should subside within a week to two weeks following your treatment. If you’re undergoing double chin liposuction, we recommend taking a few days off work for your recovery period. Swelling and bruising should be mostly resolved within three to six weeks. Full results from the Renuvion procedure and skin tightening will take about 4-6 months.
How Long do Double Chin Liposuction Results Last?
Liposuction is a form of permanent fat reduction, so the volume in your chin will always be less than it would have been without the surgery. Unfortunately, we haven’t found a way to stop the aging process yet! Because you will continue to age, at some point you may redevelop some level of skin laxity. For this reason, it is important to follow good skin care recommendations such as using sunscreen and taking oral collagen. It is possible to repeat the Renuvion procedure in the future to get more skin tightening. You can also look to treatments like RF micro needling or MyEllevate or even a neck lift with a plastic surgeon if skin laxity becomes an issue as you age in the coming years. Also keep in mind that weight gain may hide your results.
Is CoolSculpting A Good Alternative To Double Chin Surgery?
Double chin removal usually requires some type of cosmetic surgery to get significant results. While non-surgical fat reduction treatment options, like FDA approved CoolSculpting, can slim and tone the neck by freezing fat cells, the results will be minimal compared to liposuction and there is not typically a significant amount of skin tightening, so if you have loose skin you will almost certainly benefit from a more aggressive treatment.
If you don’t have a lot of unwanted fat around your chin or you are hesitant about plastic surgery, non-surgical fat removal treatments may help. CoolSculpting may be a good alternative for patients who don’t qualify for or desire double chin removal surgery.
Does KYBELLA (deoxycholic acid)Work?
KYBELLA is an FDA approved injectable treatment used to enhance the profile and appearance of submental fat. KYBELLA is administered via small injections under the chin. You may need multiple treatment sessions to see results depending on the amount of fat you want to eliminate under your chin. Many patients require 6 rounds of treatments to see a difference in their profile and submental fat amounts. The average cost can range from $1,200 to $1,800 per treatment. Patients who require several treatments will often pay more than they would for chin liposuction.
Much like CoolSculpting, KYBELLA injections are a non-surgical procedure meaning you won’t notice as much of a significant change as you would with surgery. Most patients who opt for less invasive double chin treatments do so because they don’t want the downtime associated with liposuction. Oftentimes, the swelling and bruising associated with Kybella’s healing process is actually worse than that associated with liposuction!
Chin liposuction and non-surgical fat reducing methods are not weight loss procedures. Cosmetic surgeries, procedures, and non-invasive treatments will not help you lose weight.
Do I Qualify For Chin Liposuction?
Most of our double chin surgery patients are men and women between the ages of 18-60. You may be a good candidate for double chin removal with liposuction if you’re a healthy adult with bothersome fat in your chin, jaw, or upper neck. Ideal patients should have good skin elasticity. If you have a lot of excess skin, you may benefit from a neck lift.
Preexisting medical conditions may influence your candidacy. You’ll discuss your medical history with the doctor during your free consultation. Be sure to mention any medications that you take, including aspirin and Motrin which can act as blood thinners. If you do qualify, it’s important to have realistic expectations about the outcome of your surgery.
We created a quick guide to help you determine if you’re a good candidate for double chin liposuction. If you can answer ‘yes’ to the following questions, you will likely qualify for the procedure.
- Are you a healthy adult without underlying medical conditions?
- You don’t smoke tobacco or drink heavily.
- Are you close to your ideal body weight?
- Do you have good skin elasticity?
- Does the excess fat around your chin, jaw, and neck bother you?
- Do you feel self-conscious about your double chin?
- Do you feel like your neck fat makes you look older or heavier than you actually are?
